THERE ARE SOME 1,072 MILES OF MAINLAND SHORELINE (EXCLUDING SAN FRANCISCO BAY) IN THE STATE. OF THIS TOTAL 662 MILES OF 61 PERCENT ARE PRIVATELY OWNED; THE REMAINING AMOUNT OF 410 MILES IS PUBLIC PROPERTY CONTROLLED BY FEDERAL, STATE COUNTY AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES. OF THE 145 MILES UNDER FEDERAL CONTROL 47 MILES ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Charles O'Rear (born 26 November 1941, Miss) is an American photographer. His image Bliss was used as the default desktop wallpaper of Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. O'Rear started his career with the daily newspapers Emporia Gazette, The Kansas City Star, and Los Angeles Times; worked for National Geographic magazine; and was part of the Environmental Protection Agency's DOCUMERICA project.
